Guidance
The Guidance Department strives to help each student to develop her ability to plan for a career, meet college acceptance criteria, as well as meet the current academic and personal demands of a student’s life. The Guidance Department resource room houses college, university, military and career catalogs and brochures. There are various programs/presentations sponsored by Maria’s guidance department. Freshmen participate in a year-long STAR Program (Striving Towards Academic Responsibility). The STAR Program strives to improve note-taking and study-skills, as well as test-taking skills. There are financial aid presentations for Senior parents. In addition, they host a “Making College Count” presentation for Seniors, a “Making Your College Search Count” presentation for Juniors and a “Making High School Count” presentation for Freshmen. An emphasis on college and career planning begins in the ninth grade and develops as the student gains academic experience. Maria’s students are known for their self-discipline, responsibility and dedication to service to others. Upon graduation, these young women are intellectually, socially and spiritually prepared to enter the outside world.
